It has been a busy summer, and I'm excited to finally share one of my favorite recent sessions!
Devon reached out to me about creating a photo session to celebrate the one-year anniversary of her weightlifting journey at 3N1 Fitness Revolution in Ann Arbor. I immediately fell in love with the idea! Milestone sessions don't always have to be about engagements, graduations, or family portraits—sometimes they're about celebrating the incredible work you've put into becoming a stronger version of yourself.
Before the session, I stopped by the gym to scout the space with Devon, and I was immediately struck by the welcoming atmosphere. It's easy for businesses to describe themselves as "family," but 3N1 truly lives up to that reputation. From the moment I walked in, members introduced themselves and made me feel like I belonged. That sense of community made photographing this session even more meaningful.
The gym generously opened its doors after hours so Devon and I could create without distractions. She shared a Pinterest inspiration board beforehand, which helped us develop a clear vision for the session. I also drew inspiration from the dramatic lighting often seen in Nike advertising, aiming for bold, high-contrast images that showcased Devon's strength, determination, and confidence.
For lighting, I kept my setup compact but powerful. My Godox AD200Pro II paired with an Amaran Light Dome 60 octagonal softbox created soft, directional light, while two Godox TT350 speedlights placed behind Devon added rim lighting to separate her from the background.
As an photographer, I love telling stories that celebrate people and the passions that shape their lives. Whether you're commemorating a fitness milestone, building your personal brand, or simply documenting an important chapter, these are the moments worth remembering.
Devon made my job easy. Her energy, genuine smile, and carefully curated workout playlist kept the session fun from beginning to end. You could feel the pride she had in reaching this milestone, and it was an honor to help document it.
