Documenting the Making of New Breed

Inside the studio, sound comes first. For Matthew Dear, creating New Breed begins with listening—to synthetic hums, shifting tones, and fragments of motion translated into audio.

A co-founding member of Ghostly International, Dear moves fluidly between sound design and composition. Moments of trial and adjustment shape the track as it unfolds: tones are tested, rhythms emerge, and textures build through an intuitive back-and-forth with the material. The process is quiet, focused, and deeply tactile.

The finished track carries the imprint of its making—cinematic, exploratory, and rooted in the act of listening. Created in collaboration with Ford Motor Company, New Breed highlights the sounds of the Mach-E, forming a driving-inspired soundscape that merges automotive technology with electronic music.
